History
How Marysville got here
Once California’s third-largest city during the Gold Rush, Marysville was named for Mary Murphy Covillaud, a Donner Party survivor. Many of the Victorian and Italianate buildings downtown date to the 1850s–1880s. The protective levee system, completed in the early 1900s, defined the city’s distinctive footprint.
